OVERALL BITES:

Value: The value for what I received was fairly nice. Mashed potatoes, Chicken breast, steamed veggies and shrimp only $8.99.

Taste: The chicken, veggies and mashed potatoes all had great flavor. The potatoes were the best. There was little to no flavor on the boiled shrimp and it may have just needed some butter and some lemon.

Presentation: It wasn’t plated bad, but it wasn’t plated spectacular. Just laid my food out on the plate and that was it.

Vibe: Villa Del Mar isn’t a place to get hyped at. Its a quiet restaurant with background music. Mostly you’ll just hear people talking.

Accessibility: They have two locations. One on the East off of i10. The other is in the West side on Mesa st.

Review – Villa Del Mar

It was noon on a Thursday and we didn’t have much to do besides eat. My parents invited us to Villa Del Mar and well we obviously said yes. I have been to the restaurant on numerous occasions as a kid and I always hated going. Now as a “grown woman” I guess you can say I have better taste in food.

They seemed to have a good rush for lunch. We were seated at a table for 6 and our waitress came to take our drink order. She was great and very attentive. Especially because she brought complimentary chips and salsas. But as I’m sitting there we have to keep fidgeting with the table cloth. It was the most annoying thing we could have had. It didn’t seem to sit right on the table as you can see from the pictures.

Shrimp and chicken is what I ordered. Substituted the rice with steam veggies because I am the most healthiest person alive. Before they bring out your food they’ll ask you if you want a salad or soup. I chose the soup because I was kidding and I am not healthy. The fish soup was delicious. I didn’t need lime/lemon and the flavor of the broth was heaven at that moment. About 10 minutes after that our food came out. I saw my lovely and dearest mother ordered ‘Mojo de Ajo’ which is just a whole fish fried in garlic oil as you can see in the picture. The way she was eating it looked appetizing but I’m too chicken to eat it with all the itty bitty spines in it.

Alright back to my entree. Mashed potatoes were delicious and buttery and paired delightfully with my steamed veggies. The chicken was flavored well but was a bit dry. I ate ALL of it regardless! I wasn’t too fond of my shrimp. It had very little flavor, no lemon, no butter. It was bland and fishy (go figure). I will go back regardless. I loved the service, just not my table cloth. Villa Del Mar gets for 4 Bites!!!
