Twisters – Heisenberg’s Favorite
Locations…too many to list them all. Click HERE to see them for yourself.
Overall:
Value: Price ranges go from roughly $7 to about $12 or so per plate. Although, you can get an El Nino combo (2 small carne adovada burritos and a small drink) for around $5! The amount of food you get is also more than enough.
Presentation: Presentation is what you would find at any restaurant. Nothing fancy. They do have real plates and silverware that they bring to your table after you’ve placed your order.
Vibe: Every Twisters locations I’ve been to has been extremely friendly. They bring out your food with extra napkins. You can order a Twister burrito and ask for extra plates and they always bring out the extra silverware to go along with it. They greet you when you walk in and thank you when you leave.
Accessibility: They are just about everywhere…including Colorado. You’re bound to see one if you do any driving around the city. Click HERE to see all of their locations.
Ok, so Twisters is not a secret. If you’ve heard of Breaking Bad then you’re familiar with Los Pollos Hermanos which was the fictional restaurant that was shown on the show. The location used was 4257 Isleta Blvd SW, 87105, which is in the South Valley. They are also not just in Albuquerque. They have grown into Colorado as well. They did start off here in Albuquerque and because of this they deserve a local review.
I went to the location on Juan Tabo to have some breakfast at roughly 8:30am. I ordered the Rio Grande burrito, which is carne adovada, egg, country potatoes, cheese and it’s all smothered in red chile. The burrito was a good size. The chile wasn’t very spicy and on this occasion it needed just a tad of salt. The burrito itself was good. Nothing special. My favorite is the whole chicken green…which means a Twister burrito, with chicken, smothered in green chile and topped with curly fries and cheese. You can see what it looks like on the picture above. You haven’t lived until you’ve had a Twister burrito. You can get them in 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and a full burrito. The full is actually two burritos side by side and can usually feed 2 very grown men with an above average appetite or 4 adults with a regular one.
When you walk in you’ll order at the counter and grab your drinks. If you elect to dine in they’ll give you a number, bring your food to you in an actual plate, and bring silverware and plenty of napkins. They greet you when you arrive and thank you when you leave. On most occasions they’ll also come by and check on you to make sure everything is ok.
A couple of things I appreciate from Twisters are that they give back to the community and their service. If you have a group that needs to raise money you can partner with them and have a night in which a percentage of sales goes to your organization. All people have to do is bring in the flyer (Twisters provides you the template and you’ll have to make copies) and then they total up the sales and give you a check. Twisters always treats you like family. Every location I’ve been to is attentive and friendly and the staff always does their best to ensure they deliver a quality product.
I gave Twisters 4.5 Bites because the food lacked a bit of salt today and the Rio Grande didn’t strike me as anything special. You can’t go wrong with the Twister burrito though. Another reason is that the door hadn’t been cleaned that morning and it looked like someone had spilled a drink on the kick plate of the door. Yes, it’s minor, I know. But you have to go above and beyond to get 5 Bites from me. After all, Hindenburg always expected the very best in his product.
