Toro Burger – Lots of Things Done Right
Overall Bites:
Value: Decent value. Burgers run anywhere from $8 and up but you’ll need to order your fries separate for a couple bucks more. The burger was a great size but the fries left you wanting more.
Taste: I was impressed with the taste. This was more than a nice looking restaurant. The burger was juicy, they didn’t skimp on the avocado, and the bacon was crispy….just the way it all should be!
Presentation: The burger looked great! The meat patty was a good size but it was still smaller than the bun. The veggies all looked fresh and there was enough of them. As an added bonus the restaurant logo was burned onto the bun.
Vibe: The restaurant wasn’t very busy. We arrived at 3:45pm and there were only 3 tables being used. The restaurant decor was top notch. It is a new establishment so everything looked good but you could tell the staff took pride in keeping their place tip top!
Accessibility: Easy enough to find. Their new location has plenty of parking and there was plenty of tables available. Get there before everybody finds out and the parking lot gets full!
Ok, let me get right to it. The burger was great – tasty, juicy, bacon was crispy, and there was plenty of avocado! The salad my partner ordered was also a good size and she said it tasted great. We started with water but then took a sip of the peach tea and then we all ordered the peach tea….it was delicious. Just like the juices coming out of a peach when you bite into it. The waitress was also great about keeping our glasses full.
The decor is great. The lights were an upside down keg with 3 incandescent bulbs hanging from them. The huge sign on the wall was plywood sheets with restaurant name made out of other red and black wood pieces affixed to it – which looked pretty cool. The big bull logo on the wall also a nice touch. The manager came in to check on us before our food was out and then again afterwards. Having said all of that you would think this place would receive 5 Bites….but there are things that simply can’t be overlooked.
I ordered the ‘new’ salt and vinegar fries and I was a bit disappointed. They simply didn’t have enough vinegar or salt. On top of that, the serving of fries was kind of small. I was disappointed.
The waitress was great about cleaning up the restaurant – sweeping and wiping down tables – but she wasn’t very knowledgeable. She wasn’t sure if we could get grilled chicken on the salad (you can’t) and also wasn’t able to accurately describe the portion size of the fries. She was either very new or hadn’t yet been able to sample all the food.
The restaurant also didn’t use coasters/napkins for the drinks. As a result the glass would sweat and the water droplets got on the table. It took a second to get our order so the paper menus then absorbed the water which made the menus look old and worn. The burgers were also served on a metal tray (see the picture) that didn’t have any rubber on the bottom. When I went to dip my fries in the ketchup the tray would spin from trying to get the last bit of ketchup. Last, but not least, the food took nearly 30 minutes to come out. One of these things isn’t a big deal. When placed all together it seems like oversights which shouldn’t happen from such a nice establishment.
If you look at our other reviews you’ll see that most of them did really well with the food and not so good with the decor/atmosphere. This restaurant has great decor, and the food, but has yet to perfect the small things. Don’t let this deter you from enjoying a great tasting burger. In the end, these little things mounted up for me and as a result I give Toro Burger 4 Bites!
