Review – Los Jarochos
I’m going to be taking you all to a couple of places in Austin, TX in a few more of my reviews and luckily Los Jarochos is our first one! We had traveled to Austin for an event called South by Southwest which includes conferences to attend, movies to go to, bands to see and free alcohol. Anyway, one of our first restaurants to go to was Los Jarochos. Click link to know what a jarocho is.
We walked in around noon and there wasn’t very many people here. We sat down where we liked and let me tell you that this place is a pretty good size. Our server came which by the way had great energy and took our drink order as well as brought us complimentary chips and salsa. This guy made us feel so welcomed. I had an agua de jamaica or hibiscus water. I thought it was good but I couldn’t really tell if it was authentic or not. We were looking for what to order and I was torn between two items. A Cuban sandwich and a Medianoche sandwich. Bothhave the same ingredients but the Medianoche sandwich is on a slight sweeter bread called “pan suave”. I have had many Cuban sandwiches before but never a Medianoche so that is exactly what I ordered. My boyfriend ordered green chicken enchiladas.
The Taste
15 minutes passed by and our food was brought to us. Let me tell you guys how much I am drooling over the pictures right now. They don’t do justice with how good the plates looked. I immediately took a bite of my sandwich and this sandwich made me realize that I am always choosing a Medianoche over a Cuban sandwich. My order came with fries and potato chips. The fries also had a very good seasoning on them. Now if you look at the enchilada plate you’re going to want them in your life. The enchiladas were a bit different for me because the green salsa was a bit more on the citrus side. I’m used to it being more savory and spicy. We weren’t too fond of the rice and we felt it was missing flavor. The enchiladas and the beans were still very good and the portions for both plates were such a healthy serving that I could not finish my second half of the sandwich.
Being in Austin for the first time in a very long time I was iffy on trying the Mexican food because a lot of it is more TexMex. I will be the one to tell you that Los Jarochos did NOT let down. There fore I give Los Jarochos 4.5 Bites! The only reason I don’t give 5 is due to a little problem we had at the end with checking out but other than that you all need to try Los Jarochos!
