Los Gomez – Tacos from a Trailer
Central & Unser
Overall Bites:
Value: Los Gomez offered pretty decent value. Four loaded tacos for $7. The lime was a full size lime and not the small key lime.
Taste: The meat wasn’t as tender as other places but it was seasoned just right. The tacos came with a pico already on them. If you’re expecting cilantro and onion you’ll need to ask for it.
Presentation: You can see from the picture that the food looks good in its Styrofoam clam shell. The trailer they use looks like it’s in good shape and clean.
Vibe: There were several people waiting in their cars for their food as it was a little chilly out. The cooks only took a few minutes to get everybody their food.
Accessibility: Los Gomez usually setup on the Northwest corner of Unser and Central in the empty lot in front of the new library. You can find a couple of trucks/trailers but this night it was only them. They are easy enough to find and the big empty lot provides sufficient parking. Sometimes they work until late and other times not so much. It’s the pro, and the con, of being a mobile establishment.
I stopped by Los Gomez a little before 11pm. They had several cars waiting on them in the empty lot. They offer Tortas (Mexican sandwhich), burritos, quesadillas and tacos. Being new to this establishment I thought I’d go with my go to plate and ordered the Tacos de Asada.
The tacos were the small tortillas doubled up and fully loaded with beef and pico de gallo (onion, tomato, cilantro, jalapenos, and lime). If you’re looking for only cilantro and onion you’ll have to ask for it. You could have easily taken the extra tortillas and made 8 small tacos instead of the 4. The lime was a half of a full size lime and not the small key lime that rarely have enough juice for all your tacos. You won’t have that problem here.
The taste was exactly as Asada tacos should be. From the first bite until the last you’ll have great flavor. The meat wasn’t as tender as other places but the proper seasoning made up for it. Not to mention there was plenty to make this a filling meal.
Los Gomez gets 4.5 Bites from me due to the less than tender meat that was seasoned very well and because of the inconsistency in how late they stay open.
