9525 Viscount Blvd, El Paso, TX 79925
OVERALL BITES:
Value: My boyfriend and I order 3 gorditas each with 2 bottles of Coca-Cola and a side of ‘frijoles charros’. We paid only $15 and some change for all of this and the portion of the meal was great!
Taste: Not knowing what I was getting myself into, I was pleasently surprised with what I got and the taste.
Presentation: The gorditas are served in a red basket with parchment paper. They are each individually wrapped in yellow parchment paper so that everything stays in place. The frijoles were in a styrofoam container so not really much to it.
Vibe: We arrived around 6p.m. just right before we went to a play at The Plaza Theatre. It wasn’t so busy but I wouldn’t expect it on a cold winter evening. I did however see many cars ordering through the drive-thru.
Accessibility: The location we went to was on the corner of Viscount and I10 west. We weren’t really planning on going here but the restaurant we wanted to go to was super busy. Luckily we found this gem!
Review – La Gorda
It had been a crazy, cold and busy afternoon and all I wanted to do was cuddle up with my loves and eat. Yes, eat because well what else is there to do? On our way to see RENT the Musical at the Plaza Theater but we know we had to get something to eat before then! We originally wanted to go to a flautas (rolled tacos for all my non spanish speaking friends) place but when we got there it was massively packed.
We as in ME (lol) decided to go to the little restaurant next to it and found this hidden gem. Place called La Gorda. Which by the way I would have never associated with gorditas. I had seen this place a couple of times but never stopped. We enter this place and it feels like I’m in a Juarez, Chihuahua restaurant. And I am NOT complaining. You’ll go in, order which type of gordita with which ever two of filling and they will bring out rather quickly. We went to sit down but we didn’t really care for the chairs we were sitting on. They were a tad uncomfortable.
Anywho, lets get down to the “nitty-gritty” of how our gorditas tasted! I ordered rojo deshebrada (red chile braised beef), verde deshebrada (green chile braised beef) and barbacoa (steam cooked beef). The sizes of these things were such a great size! 3 of the gorditas could have most certainly fed my boyfriend and I and we had six! We only ate two each because we also had the frijoles charros. Everything tasted delicious. Good flavor, salted to perfection. It was so nice to walk in to a restaurant we had never been to and be so good.
I recommend everyone to try La Gorda. Only a few things I would do different would be to certainly maintain a well kept restroom. Two, the parking and the drive-thru of this certain location is. Other than those two things, EVERYTHING went well. This is why ‘La Gorda’ receives 4 Bites from me!
