Christy Mae’s – Great Albuquerque Sandwich Shop!
Christy Mae’s is a local Albuquerque sandwich shop where you can get a great turkey sandwich, a pot pie, stews, a burger, or a pie for desert! Even better still is that it’s as local a restaurant as you can get – it was purchased by one local family from another. The Tricarico family has now been operating and making great meals at Christy Mae’s since ’85.

Overall Bites:
Value: The great thing about Christy Mae’s is that it won’t break the bank but yet you know you’re getting fresh ingredients cooked well! The portions are big enough to feel satisfied but not over stuffed. I had the Albuquerque Turkey for just under $11. Most plates will run you about $10 and up.
Taste: The bread was grilled just right, the green chile was full of flavor (but not spicy), there was plenty of avocado, and the jack cheese was melted to perfection. These all combined to make one heck of a sandwich!
Presentation: The food was presented well and it looked appetizing. I had the potato salad as my side and it also looked tasty.
Vibe: I love coming to Christy Mae’s. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The decor, which is a light lacquer over wood, seems like a country style home in the mid-west. It’s warm and inviting and makes you feel like a welcome guest.
Accessibility: Christy Mae’s is on San Pedro between Lomas and Constitution on the East Side. That part of San Pedro isn’t the most well traveled road but you really can’t miss it. The restaurant has tons of parking along the East and North side.
We’ve all had those moments in which we just want a hearty sandwich. One which has perfectly melted cheese, a healthy serving of meat (in this case turkey), and fresh veggies too. When that moment hits me the first place I think about it Christy Mae’s.
Christy Mae’s is an Albuquerque sandwich shop which was started by the Christy family and later bought by the Tricarico family in ’85. Since then the locals have enjoyed Christy Mae’s sandwiches, stews, pot pies, croissants and burgers to name just a few. All the food is made fresh and everything tastes great. The decor reminds you of a country home in the mid-west and there are pictures along the wall, along with a family portrait, which would make you think you just walked into the Tricarico dining room.
My go to meal at Christy Mae’s is the Le Chicken – a croissant filled with chicken salad. I wanted to try something different and with the smell of roasted green chile in the Albuquerque air, I figured I’d try the Albuquerque Turkey. I arrived just before noon and was seated quickly. The item that caught my attention was the Albuquerque Turkey sandwich, which comes with jack cheese, avocado, turkey, green chile, lettuce and tomato on a grilled sourdough bun.
The bread was toasted just right, the cheese had melted perfectly with the green chile giving it a great New Mexican taste. The chile wasn’t spicy but you knew it was there. Have you ever had those moments when you smell something and the taste matches the smell perfectly? That’s what this sandwich was like. The green chile I had been smelling was matched by the great taste in the sandwich.
I asked for the potato salad as my side and that was also very tasty. It didn’t have too much mustard and the potatoes weren’t too hard which gave it a perfect consistency and flavor. It went really well with the sandwich. The pickle spear was also tasty and crunchy – as it should be!
I’ve been coming to Christy Mae’s for a number of years. I don’t go as often as I’d like though. One thing is for sure, it’s always filling and it’s always great! Christy Mae’s gets 4.5 Bites! The decor is homely and the food is great.
